MP's Shameful Expenses

11.06.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 29th May 2009

"It was with regret that I read about Bill Cash's misuse of the expenses to provide his daughter with rent for staying at her flat. It is sad that a long serving MP has undermined his position by exploiting the expenses claims system and I am not at all surprised at the anger felt by many Stone constituents" said Christine Tinker .

I believe that anybody should understand the improper use of the allowances system and would avoid exploitation of this system. I think it is unfortunate that Mr Cash said "what is lawful is appropriate" as if that exonerated him from blame by claiming 'it was in the rules'.

We all know that rules are not enough. We have to have personal standards. Mr Cash makes a lot of not having claimed as much from the tax payer as he could, as if that makes it acceptable for him to use the system to pay tax payers money to his daughter to rent a home from her when he already had not only his country house in Shropshire but also a flat of his own nearer to parliament than his daughters flat.

"It is certainly time for the system to be changed" said Christine Tinker. "If I was fortunate enough to be elected as MP for Stone I would not spend tax payers money in an unacceptable way and would endeavour to serve the residents of Stone Constituency in the best way possible".
